Meet the 11-year-old who has completed primary school with 100% attendance.
Jessica has never missed a day of school in her eight years at Thomas Walling Primary Academy, in Blakelaw. While she admits that it has, at times, been difficult to reach the achievement, her determination and encouragement from her parents has "paid off".
And now she has been awarded by her school, which acknowledged Jessica's efforts during her leavers assembly on Friday. Commending her on the achievement, teachers awarded Jessica with a £50 Amazon voucher, which she has already spent on jewellery.
Jessica said: "I was totally shocked. [The teachers] said 'well done for the amazing achievement'."
Asked if it had been hard to maintain 100% attendance, Jessica said that sometimes it had been tough "finding the energy to go to school", however, she was "sad" to leave and had enjoyed her time at the school. Proud dad, Scott Forrest, added that his daughter "loves her school and she absolutely loves learning".
Jessica said her favourite subjects are Geography and English and she had also enjoyed learning about parts of History, with her favourite topic being Henry VIII. During her leavers assembly on Friday she also gave a speech reflecting on her memories at the school.
Jessica, who aspires to be an astrophysicist, said: "I had a solo and speech about my time at school. I talked about the time that me and my friend were running around the classroom with rulers as makeshift wands."
Jessica's solo was a performance of 'If We Hold On Together' by Diana Ross, which she described as a "really sad song". She added that she was "sad" to leave primary school but "excited" to start Year 7 at Kenton School in September and is already attending summer school at Kenton ahead of her official start date.
In a statement shared on Thomas Walling Primary Academy's social media, staff at the school said: "Not only 100% attendance for the school year but perfect attendance for her whole school career. What better way to mark this than a £50 voucher. A huge well done and we wish you all the best for your Year 7 journey."
