Skills Builder

Skills Builder Award - Silver

“Pupils respect the ‘skills builder’ values. Pupils have the opportunity to develop skills as part of their personal development. These include teamwork, staying positive, listening, creativity and leadership.” Ofsted 2021

In July 2021, our school was awarded the Silver Skills Builder award, recognising our dedication to developing learning skills that children can use throughout their lives.

Children who are able to master the essential skills can make the most of their time in school, and thrive in their wider lives. Working with the Skills Builder Partnership supports every child to build those skills as a core part of their learning at Thomas Walling.

Historical Association Quality Mark - Gold

"The school has worked incredibly hard to achieve this Gold award. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this inspiring school."

Historical association assessor

The Gold Historical Association Quality Mark recognises outstanding history provision at Thomas Walling. We are thrilled to be one of the only two schools in Newcastle to achieve the Quality Mark at the Gold standard.

The assessor was particularly impressed by the Digital Discovery Destination - a school museum with books and artefacts, supported by digital technology. Our pupils worked very hard to set up the museum, including visiting the Great North Museum in Newcastle to get advice and support from their curators.

Quality Mark for English and Mathematics

In July 2022, we were awarded a Quality Mark for English and mathematics in recognition of our improving provision, practice and performance.

The Quality Mark promotes, supports and celebrates progress and improvements made by a school in these subjects. Without these ‘basic skills’ of good communication, English and mathematical skills, individuals are disadvantaged throughout their lives – as learners, in the workplace and as parents, consumers and citizens and so they form the ‘bedrock’ of a good education.
