Curriculum

The curriculum at Thomas Walling Primary Academy includes all the planned activities that we provide in order to promote learning, personal growth and development. As such, it includes not only the formal requirements of the National Curriculum, but also the range of extra-curricular activities, which are offered in order to enrich the experience of our children. In addition, it includes the “hidden curriculum” – or what the children learn from the way they are treated and expected to behave.

At Thomas Walling Primary Academy, Governors, teachers, pupils and parents have worked hard to develop a bespoke curriculum. With the National Curriculum at the core, we offer broad and balanced provision that helps our pupils become independent learners and encourages them to be creative, healthy and positive. We also recognise that a school is at the heart of the community and should respond to its needs and draw upon its unique strengths and opportunities.

Little Owls

Little Owls follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. Children will cover objectives from Outcomes for Children (see prime areas and specific areas).  Staff also use the Development Milestones 2014 (‘From Birth to Five Years’ edition, Mary Sheridan) to assess the children.

EYFS

Children in Early Years follow the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage. Our aim is to provide the children with a play based curriculum that is tailored for each child’s individual needs. We offer a welcoming, safe and secure environment where children’s excitement and love of learning can be ignited and developed.

We will develop your child’s abilities across a range of areas, including Personal, Social and Emotional needs, Communication and Language, Physical Development, Literacy, Maths, Understanding the World and Expressive Arts and Design.
